Adam Wilcox Race Report From Netherton 2007 With The VRS Motor Finance Ferrari F30 GT3

During the Saturday morning testing session the VRS Motor Finance was the fastest car and the only car to dip into the 1:09 lap times, with Adam setting a 1:09.665, 0.430 seconds faster than the Team RPM Viper of Bradley Ellis and Alex Mortimer.

Qualifying :

For the qualifying sessions Adam would take the first session, and unlike the other teams choose a different strategy, with most teams using 2 sets of new tyres, Adam and the VRS Motor Finance Team decided to use only 1set and start the race with fresher tyres than their rivals, but it did mean only one shot at getting a time ” I have been quickest in every session since we arrived at the circuit and my time from Practice was good enough for Pole Position, but I failed to continue the trend when it counted in Qualifying, and in the short 15 minute session I got held up by traffic in every lap, losing 0.7s on what was my eventually fastest lap which would have put me on a 1:09.400 and Pole Position but it wasn’t to be, but at least we’ll have better tyres saving a set for the race than the others ” Commented Adam. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO QUALIFYING INTERVIEW

Warm up :

As the VRS Motor Finance team only ran 1 set of tyres in Qualifying, Adam and Phil only drove for only 2 laps each to bed both sets of tyres in ready for the race and Adam set 2nd fastest time in the session ” The tyres were still not quite up to temperature so I am pleased with the pace and the car balance feels good “.

Race :

Phil Burton would take the start of the 2 hour race, in 3rd position on the grid and made a clean start when the lights turned to green, tucked up behind the Aston Martin of Paul Dray son, and exited the first corner still in 3rd place until a hit from he rear from the Aston Martin on Tom Alexander sent Phil into a spin, and he had to rejoin in last place well behind the leaders.

After 20 minutes Phil was making progress up the order now into 11th place, and was again hit from the rear this time by the RPM Porsche 997 and this sent the VRS Motor Finance Ferrari into the path of a pursuing Ascari damaging the front and rear of the car.

Phil came into pit to hand over to Adam, and to have the Ferrari repaired by the waiting pit crew, who secured the front end as best they could, but the car was missing a front bumper.

Adam joined the circuit and immediately starting lapping faster than the leaders at that time, however the officials deemed the car to dangerous to continue as there was no front bumper or aerodynamics and Adam was forced to bring the car back to the pits to retire from the race.

” We were fastest here all weekend, and to end like this is very disappointing, however the whole team is still very optimistic and we are looking forward to the next race where hopefully our luck will turn around at Brands Hatch in July ” Commented Adam.
